Voluntary activity is of great importance to Archaeological Open Air Museums (AOAM). The parties, both AOAM:s, have several years of experience working with volunteers, artisans and re-enactors in living-history environments. Thus, they have good knowledge of this. The collective experience can be used to create a platform through co-operation between the parties, where the volunteers can be integrated in an adequate fashion. A positive encounter then can take place between the amateur and the professional.

Volunteer exchange programs, where volunteers change from one museum to the other, in combination with workshops, seminars will be performed. An increased exchange of volunteers between the AOAM:s in the Öresund-region, together with the exchange of knowledge and experience about voluntary activity will contribute to strengthen the integration in the area. A common manual on the subject of voluntary activity at the AOAM:s in the Öresund region will deepen the integration through increased mobility on the part of the volunteers. This will lead to increased opportunity to go from volunteer to employee.

The transnational benefit of the project is that the volunteer’s opportunity to participate in activities across national borders will increase. This is important, because they can then pass on a complete view of the common history of the Öresund region. The visitors of the AOAM:s will benefit through meeting with volunteers with a broader and deeper knowledge of the region. The nations of the parties share a common history and passing it on to the visitors is very important as this fact is not always emphasized satisfactory.

In order to facilitate mobility and exchange of volunteers between the AOAM:s and improve the integration of the area, guide materials and manuals will be created. The materials are divided in three parts. One manual will be created for the volunteers, and another one for the AOAM. The third part will consist of historic information aimed at the visitors.
