With the opening of the Øresund Bridge in 2000, a region of 3,7 mio. Danish and Swedish inhabitants was a reality. The Øresund region has a large potential of attrating international investments primarily within the fields of education, research and innovation due to the well developed infrastructure and existing institutions.
However, to support and strengthen this position, it's important to focus on large scale events and experience economy as a driver of growth. Events are essential in terms of city/regional branding and as a means of making a city or region stand out as particularly attractive.
Until now, there have been some successful, but sporadic sports and cultural event initiatives that have documented the large potential of cross-border collaboration. International competition is becoming increasingly fierce, so to become a key player on the event scene, it's important to base your efforts and investments on a clear strategy. This overall event strategy has been lacking within the Øresund region, which have resulted in the loss of a competitive advantage in comparison with other aggressive destinations worldwide.
This project aims to create such a strategy that links the forces, facilities, synergies and networks of the region. The goal of the regional event strategy is to form a clear vision for how we work together to further develop existing initiatives as well as attracting large scale international events within the fields of culture, sports and science. The strategy will function as a practical framework and guideline, so future collaborative projects will contribute to the growth in the Øresund region.
