On both sides of Öresund small communities are struggling to market their visitor attractions to potential travellers. In many cases they feel their efforts are overridden by big cities in the area. To successfully show the great potential of the Öresund region, as a place to visit, cooperation between the small actors is needed.
Focus of the HUBS project will be cooperation on different themes, to develop mutual "visitor packages" or other attractions to help increase turnover and employment in the tourism industry. Small communities have qualities which enriches and add even more values to the whole Öresund region. During the project mutual lectures and meetings will serve as an opportunity to establish contact between local actors. Lectures will be held on a range of topics related to tourism industry to make civil servants and entrepreneurs aware of cooperation opportunities between Swedish and Danish communities.
The HUBS project support sustainable economic growth through:
- Mutual competence increasing activities, e.g. in the areas of creating events, handling new technology as well as marketing and services
- Mutual lectures in the field of tourism strategies to inspire new ideas and creation of new products
- Development of mutual thematically visitor concepts in which dissimilarities of different partners enriches the common product
- Mutual development of major events like sail races and cultural arrangements
Expected short term effects of the HUBS project:
- More tourists visiting the Öresund region leading to increased turnover and increased employment all year around.
Expected long term effects:
- Increased migration when people whish to settle down in the attractive small towns of the Öresund region
- Increased amount of new business establishments
In the future, people don’t visit or settle down in Denmark or Sweden - they go to the Öresund region. The challenge is to develop without destroying, as well as maintaining the values giving the small towns in the region their nature and charm which enables them to form a complement to big cities in the area.
