The Oresund Region is crucially imortant for both Denmark and Sweden. It represents more than 25% of the countries' joint GDP and its potential is very very high.
To fulfill this potential, large investments in infrastructure are needed. These investments must be based on decisions made in cooperation by the two countries, which requires reliable forecasts and common views on priorities. the preceding ÖRIB-project have, inter alia, made it clear that Helsingborg-Helsingör connection must be part of the joint development plan. They have also made it clear that the Copenhagen-Malmö bridge, in some rediable scenarios, is close to reaching its maximum capacity. Recent developments must be considered in the project. The Femern Belt Bridge will have repercussions on the other parts of the transport system in the region. The new, sometimes, alarming data related to climate change must influence the choice of transport solutions and other aspects of physical planning, like the construction of sustainable cities.
All the major stakeholders in the region are part of the project. The support of the Interreg programme is necessary to carry it out.
