”The Music Bridge – Music and Culture Schools in the Öresund Region” is a project initiated by four music schools in the Öresund Region; Ishøj Music School, The Music High School Frederiksberg, Vellinge Music School and Kävlinge Music School.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen the institutional cooperation between music and culture schools in the Öresund Region. The music and culture schools are all part of an existing network but the network is passive due to lack of organisation. The most stable cooperation project is “Öresund Solist”, a talent competition for young musicians and music school students, which was founded by the Copenhagen Municipality and Skane Region in 2002. One of the activities aims at developing the organisation of Öresund Solist to a cross regional organisation with an advisory board involving a great amount of the region’s music and culture schools. Therefore the Music Bridge aims at activating this network through activities as regard organisation, educational theory and practice and teaching.

The main target group are the institutions and the heads of the music and culture schools and the secondary target group are the teachers, students and researchers. A coordinator will be assigned to organise and perform the activities.

The activities are;

  1. Organisation and development of the network of music and culture schools in the Öresund Region
  2. Further integration of the project
  3. Development of recurrent cooperation activities including
    1. Planning of one week’s summer camp for music students
    2. Organising and performing of 2 international conferences on pedagogical themes related to music teaching
    3. Organising and establishing of 2 music school ensembles for students from the Öresund Region
  4. Evaluation.

The project stresses activities that establish traditions on the long run, which are crucial to the development of the cultural sphere since traditions strengthen, motivate and prepare the ground for enduring development and cooperation. The project will be integrated in the institutions after the project period and activity 3 will be continued as recurrent events.
