The title is applied both as an image of something that ties people, ideas and activities together, in terms of communication. Instead of a national perspective the project consider the Kattegat/Skagerrak basin as a centre for transportation and transfer of culture, commodities and industrial products. In this way cultural utterances which appear as regional divergences from a national perspective, are common traits seem from a Kattegat/Skagerrak point of view. The project «The cultural heritage of the Kattegat/Skagerrak basin» aims to promote the everyday integration through strengthening of the solidarity and knowledge.
The project will collect and join together pieces from the common cultural history of the Kattegat-Skagerrak basin and present it from untraditional angles and approaches to defined target groups. The project focuses on two main areas within cultural heritage:
-common cultural utterances like ideas, conceptions, actions, forms of actions and aesthetic culture
-common development within commerce, business and industry
Meetings between museum professionals, researchers and other partners will open up discussions on heritage and identity and bring them into public space. The project activities will hopefully inspire people to take part in our common cultural heritage, but also to question it.
